DfE publishes guidance for full opening of schools in England - July 2020

On 2 July 2020, the Department for Education published its latest guidance for schools ahead of the intention for all pupils in England to return to school, full-time, from September 2020.

As part of this guidance, it makes clear that the majority of staff in education settings will not require personal protective equipment (PPE) beyond what they would normally need for their work, unless an individual child becomes ill with coronavirus symptoms and a distance of 2m cannot be maintained.

The department is not anticipating that it will be necessary for schools to make significant adaptations to their sites, or deliver education on other sites, although there seems to be an expectation that spaces used by more than one group will be cleaned between use.

While Ofsted inspections will remain suspended for the Autumn term, inspectors will visit a sample of schools to discuss how they are managing pupils' return to education.
